Reading University, a leading UK university with a large and diverse campus, sought to optimize the use of its estate and enhance campus management. The university wanted to better understand how people flowed throughout the campus at different times of the day, month, and year. With a large and dynamic student population, they faced challenges in managing space, preventing overcrowding, and ensuring resources were allocated efficiently.
Solutions worked with Reading University to leverage their existing camera infrastructure. Using advanced Intervale A.I. video analysis tools, Solutions gathered detailed data on people flow across the campus. This data was then integrated into a centralized portal that allowed university staff to analyse traffic patterns, compare different times of the day, seasons, and specific campus areas.
The analysis informed a significant redevelopment of the campus. By understanding peak traffic areas and times, Reading University was able to optimize its space usage, reduce overcrowding, and better manage resources such as classrooms, dining areas, and libraries. The insights gained allowed for strategic planning to improve overall campus operations, providing a more efficient, safe, and comfortable environment for students and staff.
